Although Obama is not submissive, in comparison to Madonna, she is overwhelming, as her quarters domineer over both the meeting place and Obama's room, where her ambition is represented as the driving force if the bridge. The shape of her building, although predominantly orthogonal, in expression of her bluntness, includes curves to still inhibit her feminity.

The meeting place for Obama and Madonna was, even though was covered by the coloured lights of Madonna, held a place of serenity in the middle where they both could reside peacefully between them. The table, uses Obama's sense of equality where both need to be sitting upon it for it to be balanced and feasable to work on.

Barrak Obama's room is made of the balance of white and grey to show a sense of equality and cooperation which reflects his own methods of power relationships with other. His room holds within a spherical theatre, where similar to Greak theatres, each person has a right of say. The three way stairs is a representation of his cooperation methods where each need the other's support in order to reach the top.

Invisible surfaces in your static meches?

if the static meches that you have imported into Unreal have invisible surfaces/faces/planes, all you need to do is:
In your sketchup model, right click the face which would be missing in Unreal and click "reverse face"
Repeat for every face until they are no longer a darker grey colour.
Then Re-Import the meche XD

The portrayal of power between the three choices; Madonna, Prada and Barack Obama are all different. Prada emits a culturally dominating, monopolising aura with high estime and influence through fashion, similar to Madonna who is greatly influential through media, however, Obama uses his skills in speaking and knowledge to the people of his country.

The way they use their power is also different, both Prada and Barack Obama work collaboratively with teams where Madonna seems to be, especially when she was younger, an independant and abitious achiever.

I decided to delve deeper into Madonna and Obama

Lecture Seven Design and development

I found that this slide and especially this image reflected the Constriction and freedom component that I am trying to portray in one of my designs. Here it uses the flow of lines to direct the viewer to one point, where their relationship constrict the space but direct freedom at the end of the tunnel. However, this image uses a balanced mix between space and emptiness, or a drop to create openess, which is something I am avoiding to portray.

However, studying this, I have discovered a need to create more interesting spaces where I can give the viewer a taste of freedom, however, far from achieving it.

I have used this technique similarly with small tunnels, some short enough to crawl to convey create the contrast to freedom.

The use of lighting to signify freedom is also similarly captured in my design where I would use paler and more reflective materials in the end / meeting space to portray freedom.

Unfortunately, dramatic changes had to be done for the architecture to be more ergonomic, for example, the top studio has more in door space (stable environments) and has a more direct route down stairs (easier to carry sculptures).

As well as this, I had previously mixed the gallery and studio spaces, now the top Donuts are Studio and Storage for Fiona Hall, the Ground Level is Public spaces and Gallery and underground is Moffat's Studio.

COLOUR

Throughout this building, the floor is dark grey and the walls are pale grey to enhance the power of both the artist's work and what they are conveying. With this, a theme of red is used to bring the architecture in a confronting and personal level.

SHAPE

At first I decided the general shape of the building to be curved because many of the artists work linked together and weren't separate bodies. With a curved shape, people can easily brows through un-interrupted. I later replaced the ceiling with glass for natural lighting as both the artist bring inspiration from the world around them.

The choice of the donut rooms is more for the shape it creates when you look above at it rather than inside. Because of it's tunnelling movement, it draws you up; further capturing Moffat's word "Possession". Another aspect that represents this greatly are the stairs in Moffat's Studio (the theatre - more info read below). Their hand shape steps more figuratively express this work as it links it closely to human greed.

The donut rooms and their decoration were also used to express "Shrivel", where at first they are perfect donuts, then the decoration coursly pulls it down. The spiral stairs within the centre tube also helps emphasise this as it unevenly reaches the smaller room.

FIONA HALL

I decided to have two levels and an extra room for Fiona as she works with a variety of mediums from sculptures to large canvas sized pieces. From this, I imagin her needing large space to help her inspiration. The Small room would most likely be used as a terminal or Souvenier shop if she wants one, and the bottom level would be the storage area. Above in the well lit room would be her studio.

GALLERY

This area has the option for dividers for easier catagorisation of art. Here it shares the space with other public uses and additional rooms should be added such as a bathroom and cafe since this is a building of it's own. I've used the Outside of this room for Moffat's Portaits and the middle (red) for Hall's Sculptures.

MOFFAT

Because Moffat loves to study humans and represent them in her work, I decided to turn a previously made stairs in my first design into a theatre for her studio. Here she can bring people in with her and and enjoy their company more directly. As well as this there is plenty of space for additional rooms she may need such as a Dark Room (if she develops her own photography) and Storage.

Our clients use a variety of methods and materials in expressing their concepts and values through their art. In response to this, it is important to understand how they represent themselves in order to provide them a piece of architecture suitable for their gallery.

Fiona Hall

Fiona Hall enjoys making her creations out of pvc pipe, glass beads, wire, vitrine as seen in the above picture, visit here, but she is well known to be very adventurous in the materials in which she uses from wool pile on cotton wrap in Clearing, alluminium tin in Paradisus Terestris to carved and moulded soap and cardboard supermarket carton in Give a Dog a Bone series. Many of her work play with light with the textures of the materials chosen so this should be considered throughout the project.

Tracy Moffatt

However, tracy enjoys presenting her work in different print and photography techniques, such as Ilfochrome as seen above, installations as used in her 2007 Portraits and Doom on different materials such as rag paper, Laudanum. Open environments will help emphasise her art as they have previously been displayed.

The original words were wither and possession however, from the research, I decided to turn it to look more like growth and beauty rather than wither to more closely represent Fiona's work and to remove the face for Tracy Moffat as it was too similar to one of Fiona's work.

This is the model so far but I think spent too much time on the head. Google Sketch up is a very difficult program even though it looks deceivingly simple and it took me a few days in experimentation to find the right method of making the head. However so, I was unable to continue below ground.

The two words which inspired this model was possession and wither. Possession being above ground and wither being below.

The head above is a gallery and is made of glass, where people inside can also see the water. Outside is a constant stream of water overflowing to the sides. The hands would probably be some sort of cement or tiles as steps. Below, underneath the water would also have a glass ceiling for light to come through the water and for more galleries. Beyond this can still be anything.
