Stairs Homework

Our clients use a variety of methods and materials in expressing their concepts and values through their art. In response to this, it is important to understand how they represent themselves in order to provide them a piece of architecture suitable for their gallery.

Fiona Hall

Fiona Hall enjoys making her creations out of pvc pipe, glass beads, wire, vitrine as seen in the above picture, visit here, but she is well known to be very adventurous in the materials in which she uses from wool pile on cotton wrap in Clearing, alluminium tin in Paradisus Terestris to carved and moulded soap and cardboard supermarket carton in Give a Dog a Bone series. Many of her work play with light with the textures of the materials chosen so this should be considered throughout the project.

Tracy Moffatt

However, tracy enjoys presenting her work in different print and photography techniques, such as Ilfochrome as seen above, installations as used in her 2007 Portraits and Doom on different materials such as rag paper, Laudanum. Open environments will help emphasise her art as they have previously been displayed.

Experimentation with Stairs in 2nd Section

The original words were wither and possession however, from the research, I decided to turn it to look more like growth and beauty rather than wither to more closely represent Fiona's work and to remove the face for Tracy Moffat as it was too similar to one of Fiona's work.

Stair

This week is dedicated to stairs which are very useful for betting between different levels as well as being an integrated part of archtecture and artform which played a significant role in the relationship of the structure with humans.

For the homework piece from lecture 2 Stair, we were to section a flight which we saw in the powerpoint

Datum Initial modelling

This is the model so far but I think spent too much time on the head. Google Sketch up is a very difficult program even though it looks deceivingly simple and it took me a few days in experimentation to find the right method of making the head. However so, I was unable to continue below ground.

The two words which inspired this model was possession and wither. Possession being above ground and wither being below.

From Model

Because I found the original design too vulgar for my chosen artists, I continued with more sketches for a general idea.

The head above is a gallery and is made of glass, where people inside can also see the water. Outside is a constant stream of water overflowing to the sides. The hands would probably be some sort of cement or tiles as steps. Below, underneath the water would also have a glass ceiling for light to come through the water and for more galleries. Beyond this can still be anything.

HW Before Session One

Hey, here's my homework for now XP

STEP 1: Create a blog @ Blogger, use "minima black"
visit hayley-ng.blogspot.com for proof

STEP 2: Post Three Images

Creative work
From Hayley Ng
During High School I kept a diaries or note books for fun and doodled throughout :/
Can't say that helped me in my subjects but this is my favourite doodle.

Great Piece of Architecture

I've always enjoyed Escher's imagination and his playful art with the relativities of the human eye.

Zara Hadid is an amazing architect and everyone should google her buildings XD

Original Photograph of something Beautiful

From Hayley Ng

Eversince my sister dropped the camera I've only been able to take extreme macro shots (even though the camera doesn't even give the option to). This is one of my favourite pictures which I've taken with it; it's of a dying plant I have outside my window.

STEP 3: Read above for paragraphs

STEP 4: Client's Artforms (noun, verb, adjective)

Fiona Hall: (noun organisms) (verb wither) (adjective crisp)
Dead in the Water, 1999

Tracey Moffatt: (noun possession) (verb clench) (adj unseemly)
Something More # 3, 1989

Rosalie Gascoigne: (noun city) (verb cycle) (adjective urban)
Parrot morning (formerly known as Tree tops) 1976
